Summer is great and everyone loves it, but handling those annoying insects that come around along with the season can be tricky.

What’s worse, insect bites can be the source of infection, disease and skin rash, so a quick and effective way to handle them is required.

Mosquitoes, in particular, are more common during the warmer seasons, and they can easily transmit diseases like the recent Zika virus. To remain protected during the sunny days, here is a prompt and effective treatment that will make sure you are bites-free.

Handling mosquitoes adequately

You can always go for bug sprays, easily found in any convenience store, but this all natural and favorable recipe, bound to expel mosquitoes for good.

Also, bug sprays can often contain toxins and harmful chemicals that affect the skin and nervous system, so this option is not recommended.

Natural Bug Repellents

Lemon eucalyptus essential oil

Extracted from the lemon eucalyptus tree, this oil is proven successful in eradicating mosquitoes altogether.

Citronella essential oil

Mosquitoes don’t stand a chance against this oil, which is extracted from lemongrass. Its strong aroma will expel mosquitoes in no time, keeping you safe from other insects as well.

Citrus fruits

One study showed that citrus fruits’ peel can destroy the persistent mosquitoes and keep your house fresh and clean.

Essential oils act more powerfully when combined, so by mixing two or three different oils, you get extra benefits in dealing with nasty insects.

Ingredients and supplies:

  • 2 mason jars
  • 10 drops of lemon eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops of citronella essential oil
  • One lemon, sliced
  • One lime, sliced
  • 4 rosemary sprigs
  • Floating disc candles

Directions: Fill each jar with equal parts of lemon and lime slices. Add 2 sprigs rosemary in each jar. Pour ¾ of water in the jars and add 10 drops of all essential oils in a separate jar. Be careful not to mix them. To start the process, light a candle.

You can easily use these in every section of your house and yard, and enjoy your insect-free nights all summer long.
