On Thursday, the First Lady participated in opioids summit at the White House. Melania Trump read from a letter from Betty Henderson who lost her 29-year-old son Billy to drugs last September. Henderson wrote to Mrs. Trump one month after her son died.
In the letter, Henderson appealed to the first lady as a mother and asked for her help “in claiming these lost souls before drugs take them from this earth.”
Henderson wrote: “Mrs. Trump, I’m asking for your help in claiming these lost souls before drugs take them from this Earth. I pray that we give peace to families in knowing that they told their loved ones how much they are treasured.”
Via Charlotte Observer: “Mrs. Trump asked audience members to remember Henderson as they work through issues related to opioids, including prescription opioids, heroin and fentanyl. Overdoses involving opioids killed more than 42,000 people in 2016, more than any year on record, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Let’s all keep Betty and her son Billy in mind today as you are working through some of the issues related to the opioid epidemic,” the first lady said. “Sadly, she is not alone in her grief, and we need to change that.” Mrs. Trump acknowledged Henderson by calling her up on stage.
The opioid crisis is a scourge to this country, robbing us of young lives and futures, contributing to crime and heartbreak. The opioid epidemic is out of control. It must be dealt with effectively!
It is out of hand the number of people in this country that are substance abuse and doctors are contributing to it…this should not be allowed and very glad it is a concern to the first lady!
This is just a start! Melania Trump is doing an amazing job. It is horrible for this epidemic Opioids drugs that are killing our children. Something is got to be done about this issues.
Thank you, President Trump and Melania Trump for all your hard work for taking care of this issues.
