‘Not Interested in Finger Pointing,’ Says Newsom—While Hiding $100M Wildfire Prevention Cuts! (Video)
California Governor Gavin Newsom seems to be all about avoiding blame—except when it comes to pointing fingers at others. In a Friday appearance on the Pod Save America podcast, Newsom declared he’s “not interested in who’s to blame” for the devastating wildfires engulfing 29,000 acres, including some of Los Angeles’ wealthiest neighborhoods. But his actions tell a different story.
Back in June, Newsom approved the 2024-2025 state budget, slashing $101 million from California’s wildfire prevention programs. That’s right—while California burns, Newsom’s administration decided fire safety wasn’t worth prioritizing.
On the same day as his podcast appearance, Newsom accused President-Elect Donald Trump of “spreading disinformation from the sidelines,” despite saying he’s not interested in politicizing the tragedy.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass isn’t escaping scrutiny, either. She cut $17 million from the city’s fire department budget, leaving the city ill-prepared to combat the fires. To make matters worse, hydrants in several areas have failed to produce water, and a key reservoir in Pacific Palisades has been offline for over a year.
Even Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley acknowledged in a December report that funding deficits have hampered the department’s ability to handle emergencies like this one. Yet, Bass has promised accountability—just not right now. “Rest assured,” she told reporters, “when we are safe … we will absolutely do an evaluation.”
Adding insult to injury, Bass was in Ghana for an inauguration when the fires erupted, leaving Angelenos to face the chaos without leadership.
The backlash hasn’t been limited to politicians. Even reality star Khloe Kardashian blasted Bass, calling her “a joke” after her family had to flee their Calabasas home.
California’s leadership failures couldn’t be clearer. With misplaced priorities and deflections, the Golden State is paying the price for its “progressive” policies.
