Facebook CEO and Chairman Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday that he would like to use artificial intelligence tools to monitor and ban hate speech on the platform.
He said in Senate hearing that it will take 5-10 years to create artificial intelligence tools that are sophisticated enough to catch hate speech before it’s posted.
“Some problems lend themselves more easily to AI solutions than others,” Zuckerberg said during his Senate testimony. “So, hate speech is one of the hardest, because, determining if something is hate speech is very linguistically nuanced. You need to understand what is a slur and what–whether something is hateful, not just in English, but the majority of people on Facebook use it in languages that are different across the world.”
But one of the most interesting parts of the night came when Ted Cruz attacked Mark Zuckerberg!
Ted Cruz really put Mark Zuckerberg on the spot today in regard to Facebook censorship of conservatives and conservatives sites, grilling him over specific pages that have been blocked by Facebook in what appears to be political bias, including the most recent Diamond and Silk.
Cruz got exactly what he wanted here. He basically got Zuckerberg to appear completely clueless on what it takes to have immunity under section 230 of the CDA. Since Zuckerberg is the driver of how Facebook is policing its community, this will be used against FB later when they are sued as a result of the content of people using the service.
Do you agree with Ted Cruz that Facebook is censoring conservative pages?
