A 42-year-old woman named Rebecca Peterson walked into a Shell station in Lincoln County, West Virginia, at 4 a.m. Friday morning, introduced herself to the clerk, and calmly announced she was there to rob the place. Then she pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the counter wall to prove she meant business.
Most people would panic. This clerk? He stayed ice cold.
Surveillance video shows him talking her down, getting her to put the gun away for a second, and then pulling off one of the smoothest moves you’ll ever see. He told her the owner was in the back room and that she should run back there to grab the cash.
She believed him. She took off running toward the back like it was Black Friday.
There was no owner back there. Just an empty room.
While she was searching and firing another shot at a camera in frustration, the clerk bolted out the front door, got to safety, and called the police.

Peterson jumped in her black SUV and took off north on U.S. 119, but state police caught up with her fast. They arrested her on the spot, recovered the gun, and charged her with attempted armed robbery, wanton endangerment, and destruction of property. She’s sitting in jail awaiting arraignment.
This clerk didn’t need a gun. He didn’t need to play hero with fists flying. He used his head, kept his cool under fire — literally — and turned the tables on a violent criminal who was ready to kill for a few bucks.
