Federal Prosecutors Just Caught The Leaker – He Lied To The FBI!
President Donald Trump alleged on Friday that federal prosecutors have “caught a leaker” in response to news that a longtime US Senate staffer has been indicted on charges of making false statements to FBI agents as part of an investigation related to the unauthorized disclosure of non-public information.
“It’s very interesting that they caught a leaker … it’s a very important leaker,” the President said while speaking to reporters at the White House. “So, it’s very interesting. I’m getting information on it now, happened last night, it could be a terrific thing.”
James A. Wolfe, 58, who was arrested Thursday at his Maryland home, must appear at FBI headquarters on Monday for booking. He will then have an initial appearance in federal court in Washington on Tuesday.
Wolfe, who retired in May, was indicted on three counts of making false statements in December about contacts with reporters, including providing sensitive information related to the work of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Wolfe allegedly had contact with four reporters around the time they wrote about former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. Those reporters are possibly known as: Reporter #1 Manu Raju at CNN, Reporter #2 Ali Watkins at the NYT, Reporter #3 Marianna Sotomayor at NBC and Reporter #4 Brian Ross at ABC. While the jury is still out on Page having contact with the Russians since they tried to flip him as a spy, President Trump had nothing to do with any of that. But these reporters sure tried to paint it as collusion. It wasn’t.
President Donald Trump applauded his arrest, saying, “I’m a very big believer in freedom of the press, but I’m also a believer that you cannot leak classified information.”
