WATCH: Roman Catholic Holy Week or Something Out of a Satanic Playbook? You Decide

Seville, Spain – A series of striking images from a Holy Week procession in Seville, shared by @TruthZone on X on April 23, 2025, has sparked intense debate among conservatives, with many questioning whether the Roman Catholic tradition looks more like a “satanic ritual.” The photos, viewed over 1.2 million times, depict participants in pointed hoods—known as capirotes—carrying a candlelit float adorned with flowers and religious statues, prompting reactions ranging from confusion to outright condemnation among American audiences unfamiliar with the centuries-old practice.

The images show penitents in red, black, and blue robes, some barefoot, marching through Seville’s streets as part of Semana Santa, a Catholic tradition dating back to the Middle Ages that commemorates the Passion of Christ. The capirotes, worn to symbolize penance and anonymity per Matthew 6:16-18, have drawn particular scrutiny due to their superficial resemblance to Ku Klux Klan attire, a comparison that conservatives on X, like @RealMattA_, seized upon: “This looks straight out of a satanic playbook—how is this Christian?” @MmisterNobody called it “pure evil,” while @WWNHost questioned, “Why does this look like a KKK rally?”

However, the tradition has deep historical roots, as noted in a 2025 Wikipedia entry on Holy Week in Spain [], which explains that these confraternities, or cofradías, have performed penitential processions since the Counter-Reformation, with the capirote symbolizing humility, not hate. The float in the photos, carried by costaleros, likely represents a scene from the Passion, a common feature of Semana Santa, per The Atlantic in 2018 []. Yet, the visual disconnect for American viewers unfamiliar with the cultural context has fueled outrage, with @MAGAForce2024 writing, “Catholic or not, this looks demonic—someone explain this!”

For conservatives, the images clash with their understanding of Christian worship, especially during Holy Week (April 13-20, 2025), a time meant to honor Christ’s sacrifice. @PatriotPulse remarked, “I get tradition, but this feels off—too close to something sinister.” @America1stMAGA added, “If this is Holy Week, why does it look like a horror movie scene?” The viral photos have ignited a cultural firestorm, with conservatives divided between those decrying the imagery as un-Christian and others urging a deeper understanding of the tradition—but all agreeing the visuals are jarring to the American eye.
