This happened in Brisbane, Australia, at an NRL game on April 22, 2022, at Suncorp Stadium. During the pre-game ceremony for the Brisbane Broncos versus Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs match, a moment of silence was held to honor Anzac Day. A man in the stands disrupted this solemn moment by shouting, which led to an enraged response from other fans. One fan, wearing a Bulldogs jersey, punched the disruptive man repeatedly and tried to pull off his jersey, causing him to fall into the seats behind. The incident was captured on video and widely shared on social media.
Anzac Day is a significant national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, observed on April 25 each year. It commemorates the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) at Gallipoli, Turkey, during World War I on April 25, 1915. The day honors the soldiers who fought and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations, and it is marked by ceremonies, parades, and moments of silence across both countries.
The police were made aware of the incident but no charges have been laid. The Broncos’ management stated they would support any inquiry and consider banning patrons who breach the stadium’s conditions of entry.
