Fox News has responded with a stern statement in response to comments Geraldo Rivera made on Twitter, seeming to defend Matt Lauer.
After the Today show host was sacked for sexual harassment, Rivera came to Lauer’s defense on Twitter, calling him a ‘great guy’ and ‘a real gentleman.
But it seems that now he has another problem!
Bette Midler accused Geraldo Rivera and his producer of sex assault during an interview in the early 1990s with legendary journalist Barabara Walters. (embedded below)
“Tomorrow is my birthday. I feel like this video was a gift from the universe to me,” Midler tweeted, “Geraldo may have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, but he has yet to apologize for this.” This is what she told ABC’s Walters:
Geraldo and his producer came to do an interview with me in the 70s, the early 70s, and – this is when he was very sort of hot – and he and his producer left the crew in the other room. They pushed me into my bathroom and broke two poppers and pushed them under my nose and proceeded to grope me.
“I did not offer myself up, on the altar of Geraldo Rivera. He was unseemly, his behavior was unseemly.”
“I’ll tell you the truth. If I had known he was going to be so, 20 years later he was going to wind up a slimy talk show host, I would’ve never let him in the room. You never know at the time if these things are gonna come back to haunt you.”
