Three people were killed and another injured Monday afternoon after a violent shooting erupted in a Target parking lot in Austin, Texas.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Target on Research Boulevard. When they arrived, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

During a press conference, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that three victims had died from their injuries. She described the chaotic sequence of events that followed the attack.

“The suspect fled the scene, stole a car from the location, crashed that car, and then hijacked another vehicle,” Davis said. “He was located in South Austin, where officers used a taser to take him into custody.”

Police identified the suspect as a 32-year-old white male with a documented history of mental health issues. Witnesses described him as wearing a Hawaiian shirt when he opened fire on unsuspecting shoppers.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or a possible motive for the attack. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

“This is a very sad day for Austin,” Davis said. “It’s a tragedy for our community and for the families affected
