Heroic Pizza Deliveryman Do The Unthinkable When He See A Burning Home With 5 Children Trapped Inside (Video)

An Indiana police department is praising a “heroic” good Samaritan who rescued five children from a massive house fire.

When emergency workers responded to a call about a fire in Lafayette, Ind., last week, they witnessed a house engulfed in flames and a man leaping out of a window with a child in his arms.

Nicholas Bostic, a 25-year-old pizza delivery driver from Lafayette, saved an 18-year-old who was home with her siblings, ages 1, 6, and 13, Lafayette Police Lt. Randy Sherer said. Bostic also rescued a friend of the 13-year-old who was there spending the night, Sherer said. The siblings’ parents weren’t home, Sherer said.

With the child in his arms, Bostic jumped from the second story, sustaining multiple injuries.

Police body-worn video shows an officer taking the crying girl from his arms as Bostic – winded, wheezing, and wounded – sits on the curb and says, “I need oxygen.”

In the video, an officer helps Bostic to his feet and takes him to the other side of the street, where Bostic lies in the grass while an officer applies a tourniquet to his right arm, which is bleeding.

“I can barely breathe,” Bostic says on the video. He asks: “Is the baby OK? Please tell me that baby’s OK,” he can be heard pleading, as officials assure him the baby was unharmed. “You did good, dude,” one medic tells him.

Someone off-camera assures him the girl is fine. All of the children are doing well.

Bostic was hospitalized for severe smoke inhalation and a serious cut to his arm, police said. He has since been released.

“If opportunity came again and I had to do it, I would do it,” he said. “I knew what I was risking. I knew the next second it could be my life. But every second counted.”

“I’m glad I was there at the right time, the right place,” Bostic added.
